Rebecca Digby was born in 1987 and works in Stockholm. She was awarded the Folke Hellström-Linds scholarship in 2018 and the exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts is held as part of it. Rebecca Digby uses performance and video installations to investigate the relationship between the physical and the virtual.

The exhibition features two new video works, both of which address paradoxes related to contemporary digital consumption of nature. The video work “Nature Clip Object Concert”, 2018—2019, is a digital concert consisting of six virtual musicians who play and sing on surreal instruments created from clips from nature films. Humans organize, rehearse, push and pull images of nature to create a musical structure. The image of nature literally becomes a tool for human subjectivity.

In the work “Manageable Events”, 2019, infants are seen acting in a roughly carved virtual landscape. They are interested in the strange objects in their surroundings, but also in their own bodies, their movements and the viewer. As a consequence of their interaction, the objects are activated and filmed natural phenomena fill the voids of the objects with body, sound and movement. The images of nature are pompous and the music emotional, but they remain in their given form and the section is cut off by the limitations of the forms. The world seems tailor-made for human interaction.
