June 2, 2025 fills Stig ”Slash" Claesson (1928-2008) 97 years old. We celebrate his birthday with a walk in the Klarakvarteren neighborhood that disappeared, and tell about places where Stig worked and studied from 1945.

We begin by showing the short film The Monster of Sergel House from 1953, by Olov Grönstrand and Nils Olsén, plus pictures in the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts library, Fredsgatan 12/Jakobsgatan 27 C.

The story centers on Mejan, or Sergelhuset, where the Academy of Fine Arts was located. It was there that Stig trained as an artist and made friends for life. We tell the story of three of his classmates from the Academy of Fine Arts: Zenia Larsson (1922–2007), Birgitta Liljebladh (1924–2014) and Svenolov Ehrén (1927–2004).

Then as now, higher artistic education was a hotbed for discussions about art, life, politics and activism. The young artists wanted to go out to Europe.
