Info

On August 23, the Academy of Fine Arts opened its doors to an extensive solo exhibition of new works by Marie-Louise Ekman. The exhibition, titled Explain everything – Now. consists of paintings, installations and glass sculptures, created in recent years. Some of the paintings have grown into a larger format – a scale that the artist had not previously touched. It was in the meeting with the choreographer Alexander Ekman that this shift took shape:

“Something arose between his gaze and my room… as if what I was painting took on new life… all of a sudden the studio was invaded by very large people.”

– Marie-Louise Ekman

A richly illustrated catalogue will be published in conjunction with the exhibition. It contains interviews conducted by Michael Storåkers with Marie-Louise Ekman, Alexander Ekman, Mats Ek, Carl Johan De Geer and Maria Lind, as well as an essay by Christoffer Garplind.

Marie-Louise Ekman, born in 1944, has been a force to be reckoned with in Swedish cultural life for over six decades. As an artist, director, playwright, director of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and professor and rector of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, she has relentlessly left a strong mark on our cultural identity. With a constant drive to experiment with new expressions, from film and stamps to public art, theatre and scenography, she has shown an indomitable talent and hunger for development.

Parallel to the exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts, works from the last 50 years by Marie-Louise Ekman will be shown at CFHILL, Riddargatan 13.
