HAZE(-)
In the darkness of lack of light, a multifaceted truth can escape the demand for clarity and find a refuge. In the exhibition HAZE(-) Jorun Burman Berg investigates the obscure quality of truth in relation to art and knowledge. The exhibition is part of an artistic research project within the framework of the Bernadotte Program.
The work will take on three different forms during the exhibition period, so visitors are welcome to return to the gallery space at different times to experience more aspects of the exhibition.
BERNADOTTE SCHOLARSHIP
Jorun Burman Berg was awarded a scholarship within the Bernadotte Program 2023
for her experimental artistry, which, based on the inconspicuous, banal and broken, poses difficult questions about the nature of reality. On a philosophical basis, and with apparent simplicity, she puts together different types of materials in spatial designs to investigate art's ability to approach a kind of ontological truth.
The proposed project is a continued intrusion into the dialectic between art and science, which in mutual dependence is seen to shape the premises for both our understanding and misunderstanding. The emphasis on the murky qualities of truth gives the art historical concept of "obscurity" a new and unexpected relevance.
The scholarship includes a grant from Axel Hirsch's donation fund, a one-year studio stay and an exhibition at the Art Academy.
Jorun Burman Berg, born in 1984 in Stockholm, took her Master's degree in philosophy at Södertörn University in 2022 and already has a Master's degree in liberal arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Malmö in 2011.
