INVITATION TO CONVERSATION EVENING

Herman Bergman's Art Foundry
A 130-year-old art foundry – and a workshop threatened with demolition

Date: September 15
Time: Kl. 18.00
Location: The auditorium

Welcome to a conversation about Herman Bergman's now 130-year-old art foundry, whose workshop in Enskede is threatened with demolition - something that will affect both the business and Sweden's art scene.

The focus of the conversation is the knowledge that risks being lost if the foundry disappears. What consequences arise if Sweden loses the knowledge to cast in the special technique of cire perdue? What consequences will follow for the artists if the foundry is forced to close? Where can courses in foundry technology be given to the public on a similar scale?

During the evening, an insight into the foundry's unique history is given and examples are shown of all the bronze artworks that have been cast for public places around the country.

The following participate in the conversation:
Kerstin Wickman, professor emerita at Konstfack, member of the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts
Henrik Orrje, Head of Department, Swedish Arts Council, art historian
Anne-Li Scheutz, Vice President, Herman Bergman's Art Foundry
Per-Ulrik Bergman, Herman Bergman's Art Foundry
Klara Kristalova, vice president and member of the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts
Peter Linde, member of the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts

The evening's moderators are Lena From, Permanent Secretary.

The elephant, a monumental work by artist Thomas Karlsson, transferred to bronze, an art casting that here enhances the feeling of body and skin, skillfully chiseled and mounted by chiseler Emil Matsson. Peter Linde's bronze sculpture pays tribute to Greta Johansson, Sweden's first female Olympic medalist in diving. The work is located next to the Maritime Museum at Djurgårdsbrunn Canal, where the competitions were held during the Stockholm Olympics, 1912. © Fredrika Berghult.
