Info

In accordance with the will of the artist Erik Wessel-Fougstedt, a large number of works of art were donated by him and his father Arvid Fougstedt to the Academy of Fine Arts in 1990. A first exhibition “Donation Fougstedt” was shown at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1992. To fulfill the donor’s wish, the sales exhibition “Fougstedt x 2” was held in Galleri Öst in 2016-2017. Now we invite the audience again to another exhibition where all exhibited works will be for sale and the funds will go entirely to the fund.

Over the years, the funds from the Wessel Fougstedt Fund have primarily been used to enable artists to stay abroad in Grez-sur-Loing and at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.

Arvid Fougstedt (1888-1949)
Arvid Fougstedt studied at the Technical School in Stockholm and in Paris at the Académie Colarossi and under Henri Matisse.

He early sought more classical forms, where the line is emphasized, and is considered one of the foremost representatives of the “new objectivity” during the 1920s and 30s. Fougstedt also became a significant portrait artist, renowned for his powers of observation and empathy for the people portrayed.

In 1934, Arvid Fougstedt became a member of the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.

Erik Wessel-Fougstedt (1915-1990)
Erik Wessel-Fougstedt, son of Arvid Fougstedt, began his studies with, among other things, archaeology and art history at Stockholm University. He completed his art studies at the Technical School and with further studies in drawing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. His art consists mainly of portraits and city depictions, not least from Stockholm in oil, as well as watercolor, ink and pencil. He was also active as a graphic artist with linoleum and woodcuts as his main medium.
