The casing
In this artistic research project, I investigate, through the encounter with the insect, how we create our knowledge, understanding and relationship to the world, and how this understanding in turn colors our vision.
There is a shell, an inside and an outside. This is the setup from which I think and shape, around shells that are created, hindered, retained, changed and destroyed. The world is a constant construction and crushing of capsules and membranes. Desire is a vector that wants to move through them, and desire wants to create them.
Evelina Jonsson
Bernadotte scholarship
Evelina Jonsson was awarded a scholarship within the Bernadotte Program 2023
for his critical and creative exploration of the salient forms of knowledge. Through laboratory-like interweaving and staging of processes, she stretches the boundary between conceptual knowledge and sensual experience. In the proposed project, the questions are further condensed in the intersection between entomology and poetry, between close material ordering and extended linguistic testing. Evelina Jonsson's work thus activates the existential questions that, precisely because they lack exhaustive answers today, must be formulated in dialogue between different forms of knowledge.
The scholarship includes a grant from Axel Hirsch's donation fund, a one-year studio stay and an exhibition at the Art Academy.
Evelina Jonsson, born in 1990 in Nässjö, took her Master's degree in liberal arts at the Royal The Academy of Arts in 2022 and already has a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2017 and a Bachelor's degree in Art Science at Uppsala University in 2018.
