Almost 30 years ago, Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto and Ola Rune founded together in Stockholm what has become one of Sweden's most internationally recognized architectural offices.
Projects they have undertaken include everything from buildings to furniture and product design. An intensive work pace has over the years awarded over 60 awards and already in 2004 Claesson Koivisto Rune became the first Swedish office to be selected for the international section at the Venice Architecture Biennale.
The retrospective exhibition, which will be shown in the halls of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts from 16 October to 20 November, presents for the first time a comprehensive picture of Claesson Koivisto Rune's architectural work.
The exhibition features around forty scale models in varying sizes from buildings designed over the past 27 years, along with floor plans and photographs taken by Åke E:son Lindman. Projects include the Sfera Building in Kyoto, Villa Widlund on Öland, Espina de Cruz House in Uruguay, and a number of never-before-seen projects.
Boken Claesson Koivisto Rune Architects, published by Birkhäuser Verlag (Basel) in 2020, will serve as an exhibition catalogue. It summarizes the architectural firm's production over the years and contains an introduction by Permanent Secretary Isabella Nilsson, texts by Zoë Ryan (Art Institute of Chicago) and Kieran Long (ArkDes) and photographs by Åke E:son Lindman. The book's graphic design is by Henrik Nygren.
