For several years I visited elderly people in their homes. They were anchored in the apartments where they had lived for decades. Here, regular meetings brought relationships to the people and the environments. The feeling of a home can also arise in a place that is foreign to me. Photography and painting reinforce my memories.

The door is a kitchen door that leads to a stairwell and then to a small yard. It is in an apartment, untouched for 60 years, on Upplandsgatan in Vasastan. There I spent a number of years helping an elderly man with various chores.

The door meant something, I used to put food out to cool in the yard, my husband also used to eat there on hot days. That whole part of the kitchen reminded me of Paris. It was wonderful to stay there. In the yard grew an old lilac tree with light pink flowers and also other plants.
