The architecture of the future
– this year's degree theses from Swedish Schools of Architecture
What does the architecture of the future look like? What do young architects think? The Swedish Academy of Fine Arts is showing a selection of works by this year's newly graduated architects from all four schools of architecture in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Lund and Umeå.
– The exhibition wants to highlight how young architects view their task of designing the world we will live and inhabit. And how they reason on issues that affect everything from urban planning, spatial design and sustainable construction to gender equality perspectives and digital representation, says Martin Videgård, architect and member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts.
With the ambition to create an interface between architecture schools and the public, an insight is given into what the different education programs focus on and what issues engage young architects. Contemporary and future architecture, as always, faces several major challenges where design, context, quality, society, environment and social aspects are central.
By showing the students' work, new ideas and perspectives are added to the architectural culture that is important to inspire and make visible. With the exhibition, the Academy of Fine Arts wants to contribute to increased cultural exchange between the programs and a broader discussion about content and goals.
