AMIN ZOUITEN
The Academy of Arts awards Amin Zouiten a scholarship within the Bernadotte programme 2024
for an artistic exploration of how places can be sensorially charged through stories and myths that are reproduced over time and linked in associative geographies; a theme which in the proposed project is based on the relationship to the 'Orient' within a Scandinavian cultural-historical context.
Responsive to both art historical and post-colonial interpretation practices, Zouiten wants to seek to map an area that has not previously been explored visually, among other things based on early depictions of the 'Muslim'. Through cinematic and site-specific cuts, meanings, thought patterns and processes are tested, which opens up for penetrating interpretations at the skewed intersection between past and present.
The scholarship includes a grant from Axel Hirsch's donation fund, a one-year studio stay and an exhibition at the Art Academy.
